City Lights Books presents a reading to celebrate the paperback release of Writers, by poet and fiction writer Barry Gifford, a collection of portraits of famous writers caught in imaginary vulnerable moments in their lives, including Kerouac, Nelson Algren, Rimbaud, Proust, James Joyce, Hemingway, and more; joining Gifford in the reading and discussion are editor Julie Lindow; Peter Maravelis, event director for City Lights Books; Anne Ray, founding editor at American Zoetrope, and screenwriter Michael Ray, with special musical performance by Sheldon Brown, Canessa Gallery, 708 Montgomery Street, San Francisco, (seating is first-come, first serve; although this event will not be broadcast live, an audio recording will be made and later posted on the City Lights Podcast Site), free, 6:00 pm PDT (More information here: citylights.com/events)
