Community of Writers presents a benefit poetry reading featuring an incredible lineup of award-winning poets: Camille Dungy, Suck on the Marrow, winner of the Northern California book award, Robert Hass, Time and Materials: Poems 1997-2005, winner of the 2007 National Book Award, Brenda Hillman, White Dress, Major Jackson, The Absurd Man, Ada Limón, The Carrying, winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award for Poetry, Sharon Olds, Strike Sparks, and Matthew Zapruder, The Pajamaist, reading from published and unpublished work, books will be available for sale and signing after the reading, all proceeds benefit the 2023 Scholarship Fund, $25 general admission, $30 at the door, $15 student ticket with ID, $20 without ID, proof of vaccination required for entry, in person at Bar One at The Olympic House-Palisades Tahoe, Olympic Valley, also available to watch as a live stream online , 7:30 pm PDT (Purchase tickets here: www.wildboundlive.com/events/poetryreading)

  • Poetry for the People: The June Jordan Experience, by Raymond O. Caldwell and Adrienne Torf, is an intimate portrait of June Jordan, the late poet, activist, and UC Berkeley professor known for her commitment to justice and self-determination for all; the performance mixes words, music, and movement, and will feature Jordan's poetry, interviews, and other writings performed by a six-actor ensemble from the Fountain Theatre's Los Angeles production, and Jordan's collaborator and partner, composer/pianist Adrienne Torf, who has set the work to her music, and music by John Adams and Bernice Johnson Reagon; Poetry For The People: The June Jordan Experience was honored with the Theater Washington Helen Hayes Charles MacArthur Award for Outstanding New Play in 2023, this performance is the only one outside of Los Angeles this year; The Freight, 2020 Addison Street, downtown Berkeley, purchase Premium, General, or Livestream tickets online, $40-$75, 7:00 PST (Premium tickets include admission to the post show reception with the cast and sponsors; General Admission and Livestream tickets are also available, there is no way to view the Livestream after the event has ended: thefreight.org)
