SJSU Annual Legacy of Poetry Day celebrates Asian American poetry, featuring readings by an all-star cast of Bay Area-based Asian American poets, spoken-word artists, and musicians including poet, novelist, and memoirist Maxine Hong Kingston, The Woman Warrior, To Be the Poet, Santa Clara County Poet Laureate Arlene Biala, her beckoning hands, California Poet Laureate emeritus Al Young, Something About the Blues , poet Barbara Jane Reyes, To Love as Aswang, Metro columnist and poet Gary Singh, Green Tea Ice Cream Stockings, poet Genny Lim, Child of War, accompanied by pianist Jon Jang, percussionist Jimmy Biala, saxophonist Francis Wong of the Pan-Asian Arkestra; San Jose spoken word artists and poets ASHA, Lorenz Dumuk, and Quyhn Nguyen, with musicians and founders of SJ Taiko, P.J. and Roy Hirabayashi, San Jose State University, Hammer Theatre Center, 101 Paseo De San Antonio, San Jose, free, kick off at 5:00, main stage program 7:00 (408/924-8501, lpdsjsufest.com)
